Lane County Parks’ Helfrich Landing will be closed to the public on Tuesday, February 16, and Wednesday, February 17, for wildfire cleanup.

Much of the damage caused by wildfire in the park was tree related. While the hazard trees have already been felled to allow the park to safely re-open, the logs remain in the park. McKenzie River Trust is working with Lane County Parks to remove the logs and use them in its watershed restoration efforts along the McKenzie River. The park is being closed next week to allow the necessary space for the trucks and equipment needed to remove the logs.

“We are appreciative of the partnership with McKenzie River Trust,” said Lane County Parks Natural Areas Coordinator Ed Alverson. “Being able to use fire-damaged trees in restoration work so that we can protect the river that so many of us depend upon is a win.”

Cleanup work will take place at other Lane County parks within the Holiday Farm Fire burn area; however, those parks have been and will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Boaters can use EWEB’s Goodpasture Boat Ramp as an alternative; it is located about four miles downstream from Helfrich Landing.
