Volunteers needed for District Attorney’s Victim Services program

Volunteers needed for District Attorney’s Victim Services program
Posted on 08/06/2019

The Lane County District Attorney’s Office needs new volunteers to help support its Victim Services Division.

Volunteers serve as victim advocates and work with people who have been victims of crimes being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office.

“This is an incredibly rewarding place to volunteer,” said Lori Silano, director of Victim Services. “Many of our volunteers stay year after year because of the powerful connections they make with one another and clients as they work to help victims of crime understand their rights and participate in the legal system.”

Volunteers will be selected through an application and interview process. Eligible individuals must be at least 18 years of age, able to pass a complete criminal background check, and willing to commit eight hours per week for a one-year period. Hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Applicants are not required to have knowledge of or experience in legal or counseling services. Successful volunteers are those who possess a wide variety of talents and life experiences.

The application deadline is August 14, 2019. Applications are available online. For more information, interested applicants should contact Carrie Paul at 541-682-7445 or carrie.paul@co.lane.or.us.

Selected volunteers will receive classroom instruction along with one-on-one training in the areas of the criminal justice system, victimology, crisis intervention, and other areas necessary to become a successful victim advocate.
