Lane County Juvenile Detention
Visiting Regulations
Each child’s counselor determines who visits your child. If you are on the visiting list you will be allowed to visit. Parents must accompany brothers and sisters under the age of 18. Children under 12 are not allowed to visit. However, if it is in the best interest of your child, other visitors who are not on the visiting list may obtain special authorization through your child’s counselor.
Visitors arrive at the building after hour’s entrance and are screened into the building via the youth counselor’s approved visitors list and by successfully moving through the metal detector. Visitors are required to present a photo ID in order to verify their identity. On a first come first served basis, visitors sign up for visiting rooms during the following time blocks:
Each visitor may access only one visiting time block per visit. There will be no signing in again for an additional visiting time period
Visitors who are not able to sign up for the first time block of rooms sign up for the later time block and can either wait in the visitor’s waiting room or exit the building and return before the start of their visitation time block. Visitors are able to communicate directly with detention staff via a phone located in the visitors waiting room which rings into central control.
If your family encounters a special situation requiring more contact than the one scheduled visiting day per week, you may arrange additional visits through your child’s counselor. If your work schedule conflicts with your visiting schedule, your child’s counselor will attempt to arrange limited special visits for you. DYS will reserve the right to terminate any visit at any time if conditions exist that DYS staff feel are detrimental to the welfare your child or your family or others in the visiting area.
What Can I Bring My Child While Visiting?
You may not bring anything to your child while visiting. This includes: soda, other types of food, glass bottles or containers, tobacco products (including chew, snuff, etc.), medications, pocket knives or gum. Visitors must successfully pass through a metal detector before being given access to detention visiting area.
Visitors are asked to leave parcels and purses either in their car or in coin operated lockers at the east end of the building.
