Project Overview
Thanks to federal funding provided by the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program, Lane County will be updating its Transportation Safety Action Plan (TSAP). This process will use a Safe Systems Approach. This is a human-centered approach that anticipates mistakes and accommodates human vulnerabilities. It does this by designing and operating the roadway system to be safe for everyone – particularly for people who are disproportionately impacted by crash fatalities and serious injuries. The updated TSAP will identify safety issues on County roads. It will then recommend projects and strategies to reach zero traffic deaths and serious injuries.
Community Input
In a 2023 community survey, 1,823 rural residents reported safety concerns on County roads. The lack of roadway shoulders was the most common safety issue reported. The second most common reported issue was concern for unsafe driver behaviors. Survey results by Lane County geographic communities is available here.
The TSAP update process involves:
- Evaluating the survey results, and
- Conducting
- Stakeholder interviews;
- Focus groups;
- Other targeted outreach.
