Lane County Employee Inclement Weather Policy

Reminder: Winter season and sometimes Spring in Lane County can present us with weather events such as icy roads, snow, etc.

Lane County’s facilities strive to remain open even during inclement weather. Employees who are unable to report to work or are forced to report late to work due to inclement weather conditions, or employees who wish to leave early in order to arrive home safely are required to discuss the issue with their supervisor.
Employees may use Time Management to make up any hours remaining on their normal work schedule, or they may use leave without pay. This is one of the very few exceptions when employees may take unpaid leave before all other leave banks are depleted.  So even if you have accrued TM, comp time, personal time or even vacation time, you may use LWOP if you are unable to report to work or are forced to arrive late, or wish to leave early due to adverse weather conditions.

Temporary teleworking may be approved by your supervisor if feasible during inclement weather. If you are already approved to telework and the Regular Workplace is closed due to inclement weather, you will continue to work at the Telework Site, unless you are on approved time management. Employees are encouraged to discuss telework options with supervisors in advance of potential inclement weather.

We realize that some employees will need to remain at work to perform critical services, and those staffing decisions will be made by individual departments.

*Managers and Supervisors - please make copies of this notice available to employees without Lane County computer/email access.

Please note:  Inclement weather LWOP is the only exception to Lane County’s rule for receiving a “paid holiday.”  If an employee opts to take LWOP due to inclement weather/adverse weather the scheduled day before or after a holiday, they would still be eligible for the paid holiday.
