Lane County is conducting its first traffic calming pilot in two locations: Tamarack Street in Springfield and Spring Creek Drive in Eugene. The pilot will use two types of speed cushions to reduce speeds and address the transportation safety concerns of residents.

Why Speed Cushions?

Speeding is dangerous for all users of the road, but especially for pedestrians. The risk of serious injury and death continues to rise dramatically as speeds exceed 30 mph. Speed cushions reduce passenger vehicle speeds by 5 mph on average. This can make a difference between life and death.

Tamarack Street

Three speed cushions will be installed at one location on Tamarack Street in Springfield. The cushions are designed to allow for mobility devices and large vehicles, especially emergency vehicles, to pass unaffected. Installation will occur in mid-October of 2024. Installation will not require a road closure or detour.

Spring Creek Drive

Eight speed cushions were constructed along Spring Creek Drive. These cushions are designed to allow for mobility devices and large vehicles, especially emergency vehicles, to pass unaffected. Signage has been placed on the east and west ends of the road to notify drivers of the presence of speed cushions ahead. Construction was completed in the summer of 2023.
