To obtain a marriage license: 

1.     Fill out the online marriage license application found below. 
2.     After you submit the application, wait at least 15 minutes, then call us at 541-682-3653.  Please have copies of your birth certificates and your credit card available when you call.
3.     We will review the license information with you over the phone, take payment, and mail the issued license to you.

Both parties
must sign the license and the required fees must be paid before your marriage ceremony.

Marriage licenses become effective three days after being issued.  They are valid for 60 days beginning on the effective date.

When applying for a marriage license, t
he following information is required for each person applying:

  • Address; Father's Name;         Father’s place of birth;
  • Date of Birth;  Mother’s Maiden Name; Mother’s place of birth;
  • Place of Birth

If either party has been married before, you will need to know the year the previous marriage ended.

License Conditions

Age Requirement
No one under 17 years of age may marry in Oregon. A 17-year-old may marry with the consent of a parent or guardian. Consent forms are available from the Lane County Clerk’s Office. 

Waiting Period
The waiting period may be waived for deploying military only.  Please call us at 541-682-3653 for more information.

Legal Names Taken
Each person in the marriage must select their legal name after the marriage. More information about name changes.
 
Venue
Licenses issued by Lane County can only be used for ceremonies conducted within Oregon.

Cost of the Marriage License 
The total cost of a marriage license is $60, which is non-refundable. Optional commemorative marriage certificates are available for $1. We accept payment in the form of checks, money orders, cash, and credit or debit cards. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Lane County Deeds and Records. All credit and debit card transactions are subject to a 3% convenience fee that goes directly to the bank to cover the cost of processing the card transaction.

Officiants 
Ordained officiants do not register with the state or county prior to performing a marriage ceremony. Officiants must meet the requirements of ORS 106.120. It is the responsibility of the officiant to properly complete the marriage license form. Please refer to the “Instructions to Officiants” document included in the marriage packet for more information. We do not make referrals to officiants who are authorized to perform marriage ceremonies. For available officiants, please search online or look in the yellow pages in your telephone book.

Medical Examinations
Medical exams and blood tests are not required.

Civil Marriage Ceremonies

Lane County Deputy Clerks are available to conduct civil marriage ceremonies at the Lane County Public Service Building.  Please call us at 541-682-3653 to discuss available dates and times.

Ordering a Certified Copy of Your Marriage License

A certified copy of your marriage license will be required to show your legal name and relationship status after marriage. If you ordered a certified copy at the time you applied for your license, one will automatically be mailed to you once your license is returned to our office after your ceremony.

You may also purchase a certified copy of your Lane County marriage license in person at our office or by mail. To purchase a certified copy of a Lane County marriage license by mail, complete and print the Request for Certified Copy of Marriage License. Mail the form to our office along with a check for $7.75 for the first certified copy, plus $4 for each additional certified copy. Make checks payable to: Lane County Deeds and Records.  The certified copy or copies will be returned to you by mail. 

If the marriage license was issued by another Oregon county, contact that county to order, or order from the State of Oregon's Center for Health Statistics.
