Advisory Committees and Boards

An Advisory Board/Committee is an organized group of passionate civic volunteers with professional backgrounds, or lived experiences, that report policy recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. Advisory Boards/Committees inform local agencies and service providers with recommendations that impact the regions public health, safety, transportation, land use, and equity strategies.

If you would like to join an Advisory Committee, submit an application.  Advisory Board Applications are accepted at any time, even if there are no current openings. A completed application will be on file for 12 months from the date of submission and will be reconsidered for any vacancies that occur.

Community Councils and Organizations

Watershed councils, and other chartered community organizations, are voluntary local groups who operate independently, but periodically report or advise the Board of Commissioners on topics pertinent to the organizations respective purpose. Watershed councils address the goal of sustaining natural resources, and watershed protection and enhancement, and community organizations address local issues involving a defined geographic area.

Ethics & Public Meetings Requirements (OGEC)

Advisory committee and board members serve in a public capacity and are subject to requirements established by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission.

These requirements help ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in government decision-making.

What this means for members:

  • Ethics Law Compliance
Members must follow Oregon ethics laws, including rules related to conflicts of interest and use of position.
  • Public Meetings Law
Advisory committees are generally subject to Oregon Public Meetings Law, which governs how meetings are noticed, conducted, and documented.
  • Required Training
Committee members may be required to complete periodic training on:
    • Ethics
    • Public Meetings Law

Staff liaisons help support committees in meeting these requirements and can assist with questions or resources.
